How do I manage my reading load?

By Esther Lombardi, About.com

Question: How do I manage my reading load?

How do you manage your reading load?

Answer: It really depends on the university/college that you are attending. Also, even within a university/college, different professors require a varied amount of reading. You can usually determine the reading load by talking to students who have taken a course in the past, or the professor may have a website, from whence you can determine what the reading requirements for that course would be.

If you want to be safe (and not overload your schedule), you can just take the minimum number of units/credits. Or, you can sign up for more course than you expect to take, attend the first class (to get the syllabus), and then drop the courses that will require too much of a reading load. Of course, I've found that some of the most "interesting" courses are the ones that require more reading.
